What's Pyramid Pyro All About?

Overview

This site is dedicated to housing a small selection of topics based on the interest and pursuits of someone who has had their creative juices boiling for too long now. Pyramid Pyro acts as a shell for the services and offerings promoted locally here in Ventura County. There are many areas of interest and practices that have received the Pyramid Pyro logo over the years, but the set available on this site are of the most importance.

The primary focus of the site will be Ventura County videographer services, wedding video services and backyard theater events. Additional sections will be applied in the future.

History

Pyramid Pyro started around 2002 out of a need to learn web development. Rather than take a class or read a book, why not just get in and get your hands dirty? Learn by doing. Unfortunately, it wasn't based on grand ideas for making millions of dollars via the internet, so it simply started with hobbies as the main focus; specifically mountainboarding and various social activities.

When it came time begin work on the design, there was a list of potential names, but no domain registered yet for the site. By that time, most every random arrangement of words for a domain had been taken so any initial ideas were shot down; others had already registered the initial ideas, sometimes for inactive sites. A domain registrar being used for the task had a tool that could make recommendations, so things started there.

An initial name and logo were in place that revolved around a pyramid casting a shadow. It was preferred that the name and logo work together, but the logo was most important because strong graphic design was not an asset at the time. The name could simply fall into place based on the logo. Most domain names recommended by the registrar made no sense, until a childhood album brought inspiration. Def Leppard's "Pyromania" had a sniper's view of a building on fire (as if a bomb went off - or interpret it as you will). Besides, fire is always cool, and what better way for the shadow to be cast than with a flame. Therefore, the name "Pyramid Pyro" is simple a combination of the geometric shape and the element of fire. That's it... just a shape and a flame.

The site ran, focused on mountainboarding trips along with some other personal/family items for fun. Basically, it was a blog before there were blogs (I think...). The Pyramid Pyro name and logo were used consistently after the site was designed for video and personal projects.

Moving Forward

Pyramid Pyro and its accompanying logo are still used for personal projects and are back in full force now for this edition of the web site. The goal now is to promote wedding videos, outdoor theater services, and backyard movie nights locally in Ventura County.
