Pyramid Pyro to shoot moving targets; the Ventura County Derby Darlins

Pyramid Pyro will be filming the upcoming Ventura County roller derby bout between the Brass Knuckle Betties and the Bomb Squad at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on Saturday, January 15, 2011. This event is the Derby Darlins' Intraleague Championship for the 2010 season. Originally, the event was to be held in November of 2010 but weather postponed the event until early 2011 so the skies could clear up.

Pyramid Pyro will film the event and edit the footage for distribution to the roller derby girls, friends, family, and attendees to the derby bout. This will be an experiment in filming and delivering an edited roller derby video with the league receiving a copy on both DVD and Blu-ray. Should all go well and both the Ventura County Derby Darlins and Pyramid Pyro both agree, filming could turn into a regular feature at the local roller derby bouts.

Using practices applied to wedding videos and bar mitzvah videos, multiple cameras and audio recorders will be utilized. The challenge will be coordinating efforts across the large roller derby track. Additionally, in contrast to focusing on one to two people in a wedding/bar mitzvah setting, the cameras will have to track five derby girls per team. And they're on skates. Between high-set, stationary cameras and handheld, roaming cameras, enough footage should be captured of the roller derby bout to edit a video that highlights each jam.

Extras may include player profiles or event highlights outside of game play. Because this is an initial experiment, we can only play it by ear and see what the possibilities are. In a best case scenario, this will be a monthly activity featured at the local Ventura County Derby Darlins' events with a year-end highlights video that can serve as a "year book" for the Darlins.
