Outdoor Movie Parties Under The Stars

Calabasas consists of nothing but beauty, and is surrounded by some of the most gorgeous land in Southern California.  Pyramid Pyro's next project would involve a trip to this great city for a 12th birthday party celebration. The backyard was large and flat with ample room for the screen and outdoor movie projector. A basketball court, gazebo, pool, and play-set surrounded the perimeter.  Between the environment and the weather, it was the absolute perfect backyard for a night of movies under the stars.

The setup went well and was completed very early.  The outdoor movie screen was positioned near the house with the projector in a grassy area among some nice patio furniture.  Just after dark, about 35 teenagers descended on the backyard.  I forgot how much energy teens bring to a setting.  The party was buzzing quickly with some guests getting involved with the pre-show DVD playing in the background.

Outdoor movie parties really take off once the guests get settled, the main feature goes on, and the sound goes up.  The kids on this night grabbed blankets and watched in the area between the screen and projector (for optimum sight and sound).  The host even sprung for a truck load of pizzas and a popcorn machine for the ultimate movie experience.  I was a bit concerned about the popcorn machine and backyard movie screen equipment being on the same circuit but everything worked out fine.  I will say the power cord was just long enough though.

Tips For Safer Outdoor Movie Screen Rentals

Front projection for outdoor movie parties can require cables running across the viewing area.  On this particular evening orange safety cones were used to indicate where cables were running in the viewing or walking areas.  Unfortunately, they were no match for a large group of teenagers.  Since kids are kids, and kids having a good time will tend to move around, a new system for securing cables is being used that helps increase safety, aesthetics, and management of outdoor movie projector cables.  Long, rubber mats are a much better solution and are now being used.
