Backyard Theater Articles and Videos Ojai Outdoor Movie Party

If you ever get a chance to attend a summer barbeque in Ojai, CA, take that chance.  A request came in to set up the outdoor movie screen rental at a great party house in Ojai.  For those who have been there, Ojai can get a little warm in the summer.  Luckily, we had some great weather and a wonderful backyard to set up the outdoor movie projector.

This was an outdoor movie party like no other.  The owner of the house hosts an annual summer barbeque and wanted to add something new to the mix; that's where Pyramid Pyro came in.  The backyard already had all of the toys you could imagine all sitting on a large piece of well landscaped property; outdoor pool table, swimming pool, multi-level patio, batting cage, go-cart track, and now a Pyramid Pyro outdoor movie party rental.

Outdoor Movie Party - Ojai, CAThe guest list consisted of a wide range of ages and about 30 - 45 people were in attendance at any one time.  When it was time to start the movie guests filed in sitting immediately under the outdoor movie screen (that was a first), in the area around the projector, on the second level of the patio (around the fire pit), and various places around the perimeter of the backyard.

Funny story; before the main feature began the host asked me to pause things so he could thank everyone who came.  I was crouched by my equipment rack which was right next to some hedges during the darkening hours of the evening.  Right as he paused between sentences I adjusted my stance and must have stepped on his cat's tail.  YIKES!  The cat sounded off with the proverbial screech cats are famous for and I was left quite embarrassed.  Luckily, the cat was OK (just a little spooked) and it got a pretty big laugh from the guests.

Backyard Movie Party Tips

If you are working with a multi-level patio, try to position extra speakers on the second level instead of cranking up the fronts to hit the back.  I centered my speakers in a circular pattern in the middle of the yard with the rear-facing speakers pointed up to hit the second level.  It just made things work with a little more volume, but I wish I had run some extra wire to hit the second level of the outdoor movie party viewing area.  This is not an issue anymore considering the new powered speakers that have been added to the system; more on that later...
